Coffees are given specific grades in Colombia, which refer primarily to the screen size of the seeds. Excelso grade coffee is at least a screen size of 15–16, which makes it slightly smaller than the other best-known Colombian coffee grade, Supremo.
The "EP" here stands for "European prep," which means that the seeds were also specifically sorted to allow a max of 3–5 defects in a sample of either 1,000 beans or 300 grams.
